"We're Starfox!" is released!

Posted by PuffballsUnited Jun. 15, 2009 @ 1:11 PM EDT

I've been working on "We're Starfox!" for nearly six months now, however; there were a few breaks taken. I technically started this in February of 2008, but it was set aside for another project. When I finished that project I looked back at Starfox and realized how bad the characters looked. So I pretty much redid the small part that I had started. I hope everyone enjoys it, especially fans of Starfox 64!

--------------------------------------

Also, for those of you who were wondering, I am now going to start working on the sequel to Breaking the Bank. Who knows how long it'll take though.

--------------------------------------

One last thing. I've submitted some songs (And a Voice Reel) here in the Audio Portal, but they haven't gotten very many reviews. I'm looking to improve, so if you could at least give them a listen and tell me what you think I could do to improve, or even what you thought of it, I'd really appreciate it.

I saw the Flash, it was really good, liked how you didn't use sprites but your own drawings instead. Good laughs too.

Its score is increasing quite fast btw.

I can't even imagine this movie being sprited. Half the movie is the way I designed the characters. Each of the charaters should look as they do in the game, but I've added my own little twist to them.

Very clever idea, and the voice clips from the game were well put together. I loved how you made Peppy seem like a senile old man haha. I give you an 11/10 for the originality and idea.

Now for some advice:
You tween A LOT. I saw some frame by frame animation in quick movements but overall it seemed 99% tweened. This causes a stiff and unattractive robtic look in your character animation. Consider mixing in more frame by frame with your tweens, it will make your animations a million times better. Also, work on your timing, at times things were too slow, like the walking across the room at the beginning, it was painful to watch because it was just a tween of up and down without much variation.
I used to animate with all tweens, in fact all of the stuff I have on here is made that way, but I've worked with frame by frame the last year and have found it a breath of fresh air. You have a lot of talent, keep at it!

At first I didn't have ANY FbF at all, but then I realized that it was looking extremely stiff, so I mixed in some FbF. I think I'm going to be using more and more FbF and less Tweens, mainly because you get so much more control from FbF. It also looks more realistic. Thanks for your helpful advice!

Congrats on the daily 3rd.
Also, do you use a mouse or a tablet?

Jun. 16, 2009 | 2:17 PM PuffballsUnited responds:

When I started, I was using a mouse, but halfway through I got a tablet. So Fox, Falco, Slippy, Peppy, Bill, Katt, and The Asteriod Belt Boss were all drawn by mouse, and the rest of the characters by tablet. The tablet really makes things move faster, and it's easier to use.

It's too bad oringinal work that Authors work so hard on fail but parodys like this succeed. However parodys can also be oringinal. For example this is the first of it's kind done entirely of lines from Star Fox 64. (Excluding VG Cats)
